American Artists photographed by Thomas Hoepker

Ladies and Gentlemen,

to sell art is one thing – to produce art is another.

Ideally, you do both and you know the artists whose work you publish and sell in person.

When we planned our ambitious portfolio „COLUMBUS – in Search of a New Tomorrow“ 20 years ago, I was scheduled to meet the famous photographer Thomas Hoepker. Back then, we visited the artists Christo, Roy Lichtenstein, Nam June Paik, Suzan Pitt and Kenny Scharf with him in their studios, where Hoepker photographed them for the German magazine “Stern”.

“Photography is a great almost wonderful result of centuries […] with the ability of capturing an ephemeral moment optically, seeking for beauty and contributing to the discovery and interpretation of everything that is visible: a step of priceless value.” wrote the Viennese art historian Walter Koschatzky in his publication “The Art of Photography”.

Indeed we all know them, those ephemeral moments, those special snapshots in life, the glances behind the curtain we want to capture with our cameras or smartphones. Yet it’s rare the result turns out really good.

This is not the case with a professional like Thomas Hoepker.

Some of my visits at artists’ places were short and hasty, some lead to long talks and sometimes even friendships” said Hoepker and invites us to experience these encounters of the special kind in his wonderful pictures.

I am very pleased to present the exhibition „American Artists photographed by Thomas Hoepker“ in our virtual gallery as of today (please click here).

As of 18 March 2014, we will additionally present a selection of his works at our gallery in Filderstadt. All pictures are with autograph signature and will be offered in a limited edition.

Get yourself a piece of contemporary history and take home the glamour of the American art scene in the pictures shot by Thomas Hoepker!

All pictures are available in three formats in limited editions bearing both Thomas Hoepker’s autograph and a number on the backside.
